Our Story

From Inspired to Creating a Lasting Impact

My name is Bracidia Kabugho, born and raised in Kasese town. Growing up, surrounded by my siblings and extended family, my journey began not with a grand plan, but with a simple, life-changing act of kindness all thanks to my childhood sponsors.

Through the generosity of Compassion International, an NGO dedicated to releasing children from absolute poverty, my education was fully supported from primary school to university, where I earned a Bachelor’s Degree in Early Childhood Development. My medical expenses were as well covered, ensuring that I had not only the tools to succeed, but also the stability to dream.

This unwavering support gave me not only education but also hope, dignity, and the confidence to envision a brighter future for underprivileged children. I learned what it truly means to be seen, to be given a chance not just to survive, but a stepping stone to thrive.

That experience sparked a deep desire to give back, to advocate for vulnerable children, and to become a voice for those often unheard. I knew the best way to honor those who had transformed my life was to ensure their kindness didn’t end with me.

During my internship, I experienced high-quality early childhood education, visited well-resourced schools, encountered trained teachers, and strong parental involvement. I was amazed, but also deeply saddened. In my home community and across much of rural Uganda, early childhood education is often overlooked and underdeveloped but this contrast ignited a vision.

Alongside a few close friends, we brainstormed on how we could bridge this gap in our own communities. And in November 2018, that vision came to life with the founding of the Tangu Utoto Foundation.

Today, what began as an inspiration has grown into a mission to assist in providing quality education in less privileged communities of Uganda. At Tangu Utoto, we are committed to creating safe, supportive and enriching  environments where every child has the opportunity to learn, thrive to reach their fullest potential.
